Dr. Goodjob (ダイジョーブ博士 Daijobu Hakase) is a recurring character in Jikkyo Powerful Pro series. He's a German sports doctor with weird accents and questionable ethics. He wanders around recruiting an unwary player to conduct a series of strange and dangerous experiments, with varying degree of success.
Gameplay[]
In all success scenarios that Dr.. Goodjob features in, he will appear as a random event. If the player character meets him, he will abduct the player character and ask him to sign a paper and partake in a scientific experiment that claims to raise his abilities as an athlete. When the player encounters with rD. Goodjob, the player has a series of choice in what test he will commit to. If the test is successful, the player character will gain a lot of vitality, special abilities, or raw stats based on the category chosen. However, if the experiment fails, D.r Goodjob haphazardly fixes the player up, causing him to lose enormous stats. Either way, the player gets unconscious during the experiment. He is then taken elsewhere, where he wakes up wondering what's going on.
Dr. Goodjob's experiment is an extremely high-risk high-reward gamble. When asked to improve overall stats, the player has a 40%-50% chance of either successful experiment. The failed experiment results in a massive stats drop as well as "Sense X" negative ability. This essentially will ruin the entire character build, especially you meet him very late into the game. The opposite is true for the successful experiment due to the massive stat boost and "Sense O" ability. A pitcher will additionally gain a new secondary breaking ball of choice.
To minimalize unwanted damages caused by Dr.. Goodjob in certain runs, the player may opt to refuse the experiment altogether or ask him only to refresh his vitality. Refreshing vitality means that if the procedure is successful, the player gets a full heal for free. Failed experiment meanwhile only causes the player to lose all health, which can be easily fixed by resting.
In later Powapuro games which feature the item system, certain items taken into a success scenario can increase the chance to encounter Dr. Goodjob, guarding the player from a failed experiment, or automatically give stat boosts to the player early in the game.
